MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Jim ‘N Nick’s, a Birmingham-based chain of barbecue eateries, has been named the state’s best barbecue restaurant by Facebook fans.

Jim N’ Nicks received 4,055 votes to 3,629 for Montgomery’s Sam’s BBQ. Some 81,000 votes were cast overall during the past four weeks in a contest with 32 brackets, similar to the NCAA basketball championship.

Brian Jones of the Alabama Tourism Department says Jim ‘N Nick’s owner Nick Pihakis will receive the trophy Tuesday morning on WBRC-TV in Birmingham.

On the way to the finals, Jim ‘N Nick’s defeated Archibald’s in Northport., Full Moon BBQ, of Birmingham, Dreamland in Tuscaloosa, and Decatur’s Big Bob Gibson’s.

Jones says the purpose of the contest was to showcase Alabama’s barbecue restaurants during a yearlong promotion highlighting the state’s food.
