Former ‘Bama linebacker set for sentencing

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Former University of Alabama and NFL linebacker Saleem Rasheed is due in federal court for sentencing after pleading guilty to felony charges.

A judge ordered the 30-year-old Bessemer man to court Wednesday. The one-time San Francisco 49er pleaded guilty in March to federal charges of food stamp fraud and falsely claiming a woman as his wife on immigration forms.
Separately, he’s charged with engaging in sex acts with two students while teaching at Woodlawn High School in Birmingham. The former player is being held without bond.
Rasheed played football at Alabama from 1999-2001. He played four years in the NFL before moving to the Canadian Football League for one year.
Rasheed worked as a teacher from 2009 until last year.
