Athens Police arrested Angela Dawn Young Gordon, 46, of 209 Cloverleaf Drive, Apt. 5, on charges of illegal possession of prescription drugs, possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of a controlled substance Thursday, records show. After being booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, she was subsequently charged on a grand jury indictment for criminally negligent homicide that was issued May 18, jail records show.

Gordon was driving three miles west of Athens on 72 when her car skidded into the path of an oncoming pickup truck near Trent Nurseries about 8 a.m. on Feb. 15, 2010, according to News Courier reports. Limestone County Coroner Mike West said at the time of the accident all lanes of 72 were iced after about 2 inches of snow fell overnight. He said the driver of the car lost control, slide sideways, crossed the median into the path of the truck and was struck.

Gordon’s passenger, Kelly Ann Adams, 26, was killed in the wreck. She was a homemaker, mother of three young children and a member of Tanner Pentecostal Church.

Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones has said he will convene a grand jury and present evidence in all cases involving fatal accidents to see if jurors find adequate evidence to charge anyone. In the past, the district attorney’s office reviewed the evidence and decided if there was evidence to present the case to a grand jury.
