Darren Keith McNutt and Leah Beth Downs

Joel and Dana Downs of Athens announce the engagement of their daughter, Leah Beth Downs of Birmingham to Darren Keith McNutt of Birmingham, son of Ronnie and Shelia McNutt of Florence.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Joe and Frances Daly of Athens and the late Lewis and Ora Downs.

She is a 2006 graduate of Athens High School and a 2010 graduate of the University of North Alabama where she received a bachelor’s degree in communications with a concentration in public relations. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in business administration at the University of North Alabama and is in the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.

She is employed by Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama as an annual campaign and events coordinator.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Wanda Massingale of Knoxville, Tenn., and the late Barney and Mamie McNutt.

He is a 2003 graduate of Bradshaw High School and a  2006 graduate of Auburn University where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in accountancy. He is president of Delta Sigma Pi, Birmingham alumni chapter.

He is employed by SuccessEHS as a accounting manager.

The wedding is planned for July 14 at First United Methodist Church in Athens.
