Herring, West advance to semifinals

- Preston Herring set the tone for West Tuesday with a series of dunks in the first half.
West Limestone advanced to the semifinals of the Limestone County Tournament with a 54-42 win over Clements Tuesday. The Wildcats led by as many as 20 points in the second half before Clements fought back in the fourth quarter.
Seniors Preston Herring and Austin Adams had big games for West. Herring scored eight of game-high 17 points on a series of dunks during a five minute stretch in the first half. Adams added 14 in the win.
Devante Williams led the comeback for Clements, scoring six of his team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter. Trailing 47-30, the Colts went on a 10-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to pull within seven before West put the game away from the free-throw line. Clements shot just 25 percent from the free-throw line.
West will play host East Limestone in the semifinals Friday.

Elkmont 23
West jumped out to a 16-0 lead over Elkmont and never looked back in its opening round win at the Limestone County Tournament Tuesday. West led 20-2 after the first quarter and 38-12 at halftime in the comfortable victory.
Anna Baugher led West with 14 points. Breanna Dean, Abigale Gilbert, Kayla Carter and Laura Easter all added 10 points in the win.
Shelby Rouse led Elkmont with eight points.
West Limestone will play East Limestone in the semifinals Friday.
