PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) — Troy University officials say a 20-foot trojan statue will serve as a landmark for a new campus being planned in Phenix City.
Authorities held a Thursday news conference to discuss details of the new campus on the east Alabama city’s riverfront. The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (http://bit.ly/vdpYl1) that ground will be broken for the campus in the spring.
Phenix City will give Troy University $2 million to help establish the campus.
Authorities say the money will come from a portion of the funds collected from the business license fees on residential rental property owners. It will be paid over the next five years in payments of no less than $200,000 per year.
Authorities say the university plans to build an academic center used primarily for business courses at the new campus.
