At its Tuesday meeting, the Limestone County Board of Education hired the Alabama Association of School Boards to conduct a superintendent search for the school system.

AASB offered board members three packages to choose from, ranging from $6,000-$12,000. Members chose the platinum service at  $12,000.

The search will bring the system a step closer to finding a replacement. 

Previous superintendent Dr. Barry Carroll announced his intention to resign in October. His resignation became effective Dec. 1.

The board will also have to hire an assistant superintendent. Mike Owens announced his retirement in September. 

Zebbra Green, who served as Limestone County director of elementary curriculum, is serving as Limestone County’s interim superintendent.

In other business, the board:

• Approved to bid banking services. The school system updates its services on a bi-annual basis. Officials said they are working to get the best deal possible for the system.

• Accepted a bid for refurbished computers. Computers are being purchased at less than half the price of a new computer and include at 3-year warranty.

• Approved adding a greenhouse at Ardmore High School. The greenhouse will be supervised by Steve Wallace and will be paid for by a grant.

• Tabled a discussion of equalization nominees.

• Discussed the development of a policy for service animals to be used in public schools.

The Limestone County Board of Education’s next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 at City Hall.
