Dog that survived Florence gas chamber finds new home

NUTLEY, N.J. (AP) — The beagle mix that survived an Alabama dog pound’s gas chamber has found a permanent home in New Jersey.

Eleventh Hour Rescue tells The Star-Ledger of Newark “Daniel” has been placed with a family in Nutley.

The rescue group arranged for the dog to be flown to New Jersey after he emerged with his tail wagging from the gas chamber at the Animal Control facility in Florence, Ala., on Oct. 3.

Volunteers named the dog “Daniel” after the biblical figure who survived the lion’s den.

No one is sure why the dog survived.
