MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Police in Mobile say they’ve made one arrest and issued nine citations since the citywide nighttime curfew went into effect last week.
Deputy Chief James Barber tells the Press-Register (http://bit.ly/rCiCEQ) that the number of offenders so far is lower than he had anticipated.
The Mobile City Council approved the curfew earlier this month.
The nighttime portion of it began a week ago and bans children 17 and younger from walking the streets or occupying places of business after 11 p.m. on school nights and after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
A daytime curfew, which starts Jan. 1, imposes the same restrictions for those 16 and younger from 9 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. on days when public schools are in session.
