A Limestone County woman was killed and another was seriously injured Friday afternoon when their sport-utility vehicle overturned in a ditch 10 miles west of Athens and they were ejected.
Skylar Ann Mays, 19, of Athens was driving a 1995 Ford Explorer east on Snake Road with her passenger, Lauren Elizabeth Nunn, 20, of Decatur, when she apparently lost control of the vehicle about 1:08 p.m., according to state troopers.
“The driver was eastbound on Snake and at the bottom of the hill at Wright Road she went off the road and into a ditch and got sideways and flipped,” Limestone County Coroner Mike West said. “Both were ejected.”
Neither was wearing a seat belt, a state trooper said.
Mays was declared dead at the scene.
Nunn was flown by MedFlight helicopter to Huntsville Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition in the emergency room at 5 p.m., a hospital spokeswoman said.
Both were 2010 graduates of East Limestone High School.
Mays worked at Kathleen’s Korner Salon in Athens.
