Emily Brooke Newton and Cody Wade Lewter

Stephanie Newton of Athens announces the engagement of her daughter, Emily Brooke Newton, daughter of the late Gary Newton, to Cody Wade Lewter, son of Danny and Margaret Lewter of Athens.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of David and Alice Newton of Athens and Henry and Jane Ellen Bass of Valdosta, Ga.

She is a 2003 graduate of Tanner High School and a  2008 graduate of Auburn University where she received a bachelor’s degree in criminology. She is employed by Limestone County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Tom Griggs and Adell Griggs of Athens and the late Wade Lewter and Jean Lewter.

He is a 2002 graduate of West Limestone High School. He is employed by Limestone County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy.

The wedding is planned for Sept. 10 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Berzett in Athens.
