- Crews from the Athens Public Works Department work Tuesday to repave a portion of Jefferson Street. Traffic is being diverted into alternate lanes where crews are working on the portion from Green Street to U.S. 72. Work is expected to be completed Saturday, if conditions permit. However, rain and storms are forecast.

Showers and storms are likely across the Tennessee Valley over the next several days, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.
A series of upper-level disturbances and another front later in the week will keep storm chances in the forecast through Monday.
The threat of strong-to-damaging wind gusts and locally heavy rainfall will be possible with the stronger storms, the Weather Service said.
Scattered storms are expected today, with a high near 92 degrees. The same pattern is expected to hold throughout the week, with highs staying in the mid-90s and lows in the lower 70s.
