Brittany Lynne Blakney and Dyer Shirley Moore

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bernard Blakney of Tuscaloosa announce the engagement of their daughter, Brittany Lynne Blakney, to Dyer Shirley Moore of Northport, son of Mrs. Rufus Lee Moore of Tuscaloosa and the late Mr. Moore.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Marvin Burkhalter of Gordo and Mrs. Evelyn Hovis Marbut of Athens and the late Mr. Oscar Bernard Blakney, Mr. James Brandon Marbut and Edith Ezell Marbut.

She is a 2000 graduate of Central High School and a 2005 graduate of the University of Alabama where she received a bachelor’s degree in early childhood development. She is a 2009 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she received a master’s degree in early childhood special education.

She is employed by the University of Alabama Rise School.

The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. Rufus Oliver Moore Jr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Emil Shirley Jr.

He is a 1997 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and a graduate of the University of Alabama where he received a bachelor’s degree in geography.

He is employed by Ryan Shirley Inc.

The wedding is planned for May 14 at Northport First United Methodist Church in Northport.
