Teen arrested on drug charges

A Friday night traffic stop led to the arrest of an Athens teen on drug charges.

Officer Jonathan Caldwell pulled over a black Mercedes shortly after 8 p.m. near Huntsville Brownsferry Road. When he got out of his unit, three males got out of the Mercedes and took off on foot.

Caldwell was able to catch the driver of the vehicle, identified as Jamal Anderson, 18, of 9461 U.S. 72 West. Police say he had drugs in his possession, including three bags of marijuana, one bag of cocaine and a set of digital scales.

He was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at the police department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail.

The two other male suspects have not been located.
