Limestone County Sheriff’s Lt. Brad Curnutt said the 13-year-old, whose name was withheld by The News Courier, was arrested just after noon Wednesday at the Sheriff’s Department on a charge of first-degree sodomy, a felony.

After the 13-year-old was arrested, juvenile authorities were notified and the boy was released to the custody of his parents on a promise to appear in court, Curnutt said. No arraignment date has been set for the boy, who has been charged as a juvenile, he said.

The Department of Human Resources reported the complaint of inappropriate sexual contact between the 13-year-old and the 10-year-old, who are related, to the Sheriff’s Department, Curnutt said.

“It has apparently been going on for several months,” the lieutenant said.

He declined to say where or under what circumstances the alleged abuse took place in order to protect the victim’s identity.

The 13-year-old was arrested after the Limestone County Child Advocacy Center interviewed the victim and Sheriff’s Department officials investigated the allegation, he said.

“There was evidence that the 13-year-old had been sexually abused himself,” Curnutt said.

He declined to reveal whether a relative or someone unrelated might have sexually abused the 13-year-old.
