The story on Booth, who co-captained Athens High School’s undefeated and second-ranked 1954 team, is serialized over three months and focuses on his days playing football in the ’50s for the Golden Eagles and the Alabama Crimson Tide when he survived the difficult Whitworth regime to help launch the Paul “Bear” Bryant era. The first installment of the story, which was recently released, can be accessed at http://www.crimsonreplay.com/hh.php. Parts two and three will be published in late November and December.
Booth was a three-year letterman and starter on Bryant’s first University of Alabama team in the late 1950s, as well as a star player for Athens in football and basketball from 1952-1955. He was an All-Tennessee Valley Conference and all-state player while in high school. Booth was the only Alabama player to appear in the 1958 North-South Shrine Game in Miami, Fla.
