Sitel to close Birmingham, Ala. call center

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Sitel Corp. says it’s shutting down its Birmingham call center operation, eliminating 432 jobs.
The Nashville, Tenn.-based company says it’s informed state officials that the office will be closed on Aug. 30. It says workers were given eight weeks notice.
Company spokesman Andrew Kokes says the shtdown results from the changing needs of Sitel’s clients.
Sitel entered the Birmingham market in 1997 and once employed 700 people there.
