Capt. Loyd Baker, commander of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit, says a man and a woman were killed Monday night when a 2005 Cessna Cirrus crashed just short of the runway.

Baker said Tuesday the plane was en route to Memphis from Miami on a flight that originated in the Dominican Republic. He said the victims were stopping in Tuscaloosa to have dinner with the woman’s daughter.

Authorities have not disclosed the names of the victims.

Baker says the airport will remain closed until the wreckage is clared.
