The Primary Election is June 1 and Probate Judge Mike Davis and Felix Liveoak, chairman of the Board of Registrars, are reminding everyone who has not done so to update their voter registration.

Liveoak said 10 percent of the voters in Limestone County still have not updated their voter records and are being carried on the rolls as “Inactive Voters.”

“When inactive voters go to the polls June 1 and find their names on the inactive list, they must fill out an update form before they can vote,” said Liveoak. “With the expected long lines, this added step will delay the voter and create a bottleneck in the process.”

Voters can check on their registration and voting status by visiting the Alabama Secretary of State’s website at http://www.alabamavotes.gov 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Voters can check their voting status, polling place, sample ballots and download mail-in registration forms on this site. Completed forms must be mailed to the Board of Registrars. You cannot register online.

Mail-in forms are also available at the Athens-Limestone Public Library on South Street, the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office in the courthouse, the County Commission office on Washington Street, and the municipal buildings of Athens, Ardmore and Elkmont.

Voters also may register in person at the Board of Registrars on the second floor of the Clinton Street Courthouse Annex, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“Do this early to avoid long lines,” said Liveoak. “The last day to register is Friday, May 21. Update your registration now and save yourself a hassle at the polling place.”
