East crowned 5A, Area 16 champions, Indians host Russellville in first rounf of playoffs Friday

East Limestone clinched the Class 5A, Area 16 championship recently with a 19-1 win over Johnson in prep baseball action.

Brett Mansfield led the Indians, going 4-for-5 with four singles, three RBIs and four stolen bases. Cade Medley was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a single, two RBIs and four stolen bases.

Caleb Roberts, Seth Honea and Will Lamon saw action on the mound in the win.

East Limestone 15, Priceville 10

Trailing 4-0 after two innings, East Limestone scored three runs to cut the lead to one on singles by A.J. Floyd and Jack Cruse and a double by Mansfield. The Indians took the lead in the fourth on a three-run home run by Medley.

East Limestone scored four more runs in the fifth for the 10-4 advantage, but Priceville rallied, scoring six runs in the sixth to tie the game. Chad Silcox scored the go-ahead run for the Indians in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice bunt by Jamie Nunn. Mansfield sealed the win with a base-clearing double. Mansfield, Floyd and Nathan Glaze pitched for the Indians.

East Limestone travels to Bob Jones today before hosting Russellville in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday.

Ardmore 13, East Lawrence 3

Kevin Shelton was 3-for-4 for the Tigers with a home run, triple and six RBIs. Landon Boggs was 3-for-4 with two singles and a double, while Caleb Lindsey had three singles. Michael Fogg, Matt Teeples and Preston Fogg contributed two singles each, followed by Cody Dempsey with one single.

Lindsey went the distance for Ardmore, striking out six, walking two and allowing three runs on four hits.

Ardmore 8, West Limestone 3

Lindsey had two singles and a double for the Tigers. Michael Fogg, Kevin Shelton and Preston Fogg added singles.

Shelton hurled eight innings, striking out 16, walking four and allowing five runs on four hits. Lindsey pitched the final inning, striking out one.

Ardmore 14, East Lawrence 1

The Tigers secured a spot in the upcoming Class 4A playoffs with the area win over the Eagles.

Michael Fogg was 3-for-4 at the plate with three singles and four RBIs. Lucky was 2-for-2 with a double, single and three RBIs. Dempsey and Dylan Martin had two singles each, while Teeples, Austin Fogg and Ryan Dawson singled. Hutchinson pitched a complete game, striking out three, walking two and allowing one run on three hits.

Softball

Lincoln County, Tenn. 6, Athens 2

Whitney Jordan had a double and single in the loss.

Athens 8, Blackman, Tenn. 0

Jordan had two singles for the Lady Golden Eagles. Elizabeth Ming and Riley Greene added one hit apiece. Haley Mitchell pitched a one-hitter in the win.

Sparkman 5, Athens 3

Ming had a home run in the loss. Jordan added two hits. Heather Hubbs added a double, while Emily Eddy and Green contributed one hit each.

In other games during the weekend Fayetteville County, Tenn. tournament,  the Lady Golden Eagles defeated Cascade High, Tenn., 11-6 and Giles, County, Tenn., 4-3.
