• Fla. man calls detectives after pot plants seized

MARATHON, Fla. (AP) — Investigators in the Florida Keys say they lured a suspected marijuana grower into turning himself in by leaving a ransom note in place of six seized pot plants.

The sheriff’s office in Monroe County says detectives discovered the plants in a wooded lot and confiscated them.

They left a phone number on a note that read: “Thanks for the grow! You want them back? Call for the price.”

Steven Alan Locasio called the number about 10 minutes later. Locasio offered $200 for the plants, and detectives agreed to meet him for an exchange.

Locasio was arrested and booked into jail on drug charges. He was expected to appear in court Tuesday. It’s unclear if he already has an attorney.

A telephone message left for Locasio was not immediately returned.

EPSOM, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire man is raising money for wounded veterans by putting in some long hours at the free-throw line.

He started on Veterans Day in 2009 and says he can reach his goal by Veterans Day 2011 by sinking 1,370 shots per day. On one day recently he sank 7,000 shots in ten hours.

Cummings says he keeps a pair of empty sneakers near the basket, symbolizing the men and woman who have died in war.

• 4-ton statue stolen from Utah motorcycle shop

LINDON, Utah (AP) — Police say thieves must’ve used heavy equipment to make off with a 4-ton statue mounted outside a Utah motorcycle shop.

Lindon Police Chief Cody Cullimore says a back-hoe or a crane likely was required to move the $100,000 sculpture depicting an old-time speed racer. Employees discovered it was missing from the Timpanogos Harley-Davidson store in Lindon, where it had been erected two years ago.

Store manager Kandi Zamora says the granite block on which it was mounted also was missing.
