FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) — A 21-year-old Florence man is in the Lauderdale County Detention Center, charged with murdering his stepfather at their home.

Police say Malcolm Rashod Murphy was charged Sunday afternoon in the killing of Darrel Barnett, who would have been 39 on Monday. Murphy was being held on $50,000 bond.

Police were called Sunday after the shooting was discovered by Barnett’s wife and Murphy’s mother, Yolanda Barnett.

The TimesDaily reports that family members said Yolanda Barnett had gone to the store, and when she returned Murphy told her he had shot her husband.

Detectives say there have been numerous calls to the residence involving Murphy in the past month.
