DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) — Authorities in Dothan say a 12-year-old boy stabbed his mother in the back with a knife during a domestic altercation.

Dothan Police Sgt. Adrianne Woodruff said the woman was transported to a hospital but was “coherent” around 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The Dothan Eagle reports that Woodruff said police were still examining details of the dispute.

Acting Police Chief Larry Draughon said the injury did not appear to be life-threatening.
