NEW YORK (AP) — A funeral is being held in New York City for the husband of U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney.
Clifton Maloney died last month on a mountain-climbing expedition in the Himalayas. He was 71.
The millionaire investment banker and avid climber was resting in a high-altitude camp after reaching the summit of the world’s sixth-highest mountain when he died unexpectedly.
A company that provides search and rescue services recovered his body from the slopes of Cho Oyu (CHOH’ oh-YOO’), which straddles the border of Nepal and Tibet.
The funeral is Friday at a Presbyterian church in Manhattan.
Carolyn Maloney represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, which includes parts of New York City. Aides to the Democrat say her husband’s last words were: “I am the happiest man in the world. I just climbed a beautiful mountain.”
