An Elkmont man has been formally charged with first-degree sexual abuse involving a 22-year-old woman who is mentally incapacitated.

The indictment of Herman Curtis Haygood Jr., 49, of 23554 Fain Road, Lot 5, was among 187 handed down by a Limestone County grand jury this week. The names of some of them were withheld pending their arrests.

Haygood was arrested after the woman told a family member about the alleged abuse, said Limestone Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt when Haygood was initially charged in January.

“The abuse is alleged to have gone on for some time,” McNatt said. “The 22-year-old finally told a family member and the family member called the sheriff’s office.”



Porn production charge



Also formally charged this week was Brian Keith Lambert, 42, of 18452 Blue Springs Road in Athens for production of porn with a minor.

He is accused of secretly videotaping a 14-year-old girl disrobing before showering, McNatt said when Lambert was initially charged in December.

“He videotaped a 14-year-old female as she was getting undressed to get in the shower,” McNatt said. “She was unaware she was being recorded.”

The incident occurred a few months before at the girl’s home. Authorities learned of the incident from the Department of Human Resources.

“We found out about it because the DHR was contacted by a school counselor,” McNatt said. “The victim had observed the recording not knowing what it would be. She looked on the video and saw she was on it and reported it to a school counselor.”

The victim’s name and address were withheld to protect her identity.

Also this week, Freddy Wayne Webb, 53, of 13021 Snake Road in Athens was formally charged with child abuse. He is accused of physically abusing an 11-year-old boy who is related to him, McNatt said when Webb was initially charged in March.

“The boy had excessive bruising on the back of his legs and buttocks,” McNatt said. The child told official s at Clements High School, who called the DHR, who called the Sheriff’s Department. Investigator Leslie Ramsey and DHR investigators interviewed and photographed the child.
