FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) — A 27-year-old Muscle Shoals man was shot to death in a weekend shooting.

Florence police said Joel Ricks was shot at a Florence apartment complex around 4 a.m. Sunday. He died at a local hospital.

The alleged shooter, 27-year-old Jermaine Anwar Jefferson of Florence, was arrested about 3 hours later during a traffic stop. He was charged with Ricks’ murder.

Investigators believe a domestic dispute led to the shooting.

Jefferson was being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center on $51,000 bond.

It was the city’s first homicide of the year.
