When Michelle Boggs moved to Limestone County six years ago, she saw a need that wasn’t being filled.

“The kids here need a safe, morally-grounded place to go and the adults need a non-alcoholic place to dance and have fun without driving all the way to Huntsville for entertainment,” Boggs said.

On Friday Boggs and her fiancé Bryan Smith will open The Edge, a “game room/dancehall,” located at 9338 U.S. 31 South in Tanner.

This is a place where families can come together without the influence of alcohol, a kind of safe haven, Boggs said.

Boggs, 42, and Smith, 39, have six children between them, ranging in ages from 14 to 23.

“We want the dads to come to shoot a game of pool with their sons and daughters, that might be the only five minutes together in their day,” she said. “That’s our goal — more family time.”

The Edge will be open Mondays through Wednesdays from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Thursdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. until midnight. There is security on staff. It is closed on Sundays.

The Edge will be a good, safe place for college students to hang out between classes and for the high school kids to hang out after school, Boggs said.

“We’re trying to get them away from the influence of alcohol, the influence and the drugs … You don’t have to have alcohol to have fun,” she said. “It’s somewhere they can go to have a good time and not be confronted with all of that.”

The Edge will feature several forms of entertainment including arcade games and pool tables, a dance floor and a house band.

Concessions will be available. The Edge is also open for parties.

Thursdays will be karaoke night. On Thursdays and Fridays the house band, Over the Edge, made up of Smith, Cliff Wright, Keith Oldham and Ken Wilson, will perform. Line dancing lessons will also be available at 7 p.m. on Saturdays.

Admission is $5 for Karaoke night and $6 for Thursday and Friday nights.
