Calhoun baseball, softball sweeps Lawson State; softball sweeps at Disney

Calhoun’s baseball team swept Lawson State on the road Wednesday afternoon, winning 17-7 and 14-1 in junior college baseball action.

Logan Remson went 2-for-5 with for RBIs for the Warhawks in game one. Edward Douglas also went 2-for-5 and scored three runs. Michael Schmidt scored four times and went 3-for-4 at the plate. Russ Stephens drove in three runs and went 3-for-5.

Kyle Butler and Derrick Calvert combined for the win. Butler pitched six innings, striking out two, walking three and allowed seven runs on seven hits. Calvert pitched two innings, allowing only one hit.

In game two, Schmidt went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Jackson Woodruff went 3-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs. Jacob Smith went 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs. Remson scored twice and went 2-for-3.

Colby Lipham and Brandon Elrod combined for the win.

Juco Softball

The Lady Warhawks went on a hitting spree to open play in the Walt Disney World Spring Break Event Thursday. They defeated Sussex County Community College 15-2.

Britney Wagner scored three runs and went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two singles. She also recorded four RBIs. Brittany Richardson and Hollye Keenumn each had a double and one single. Brittany Harris added three singles, while Christine Boczek added one.

Cassis Sims was the winning pitcher, giving up only three hits.

In game two of the day, Calhoun defeated Ancilla College 12-0.

Wagner went 4-for-4 at the plate again with two doubles, two singles and three RBIs. Melissa Sharp went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. Hollye Keenum had two singles. Sims and Harris each added one single. Briana Yarbrough was the winning pitcher for the Lady Warhawks, striking out three and giving up one hit. On Wednesday, Harris had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth to give the Lady Warhawks a 7-6 win over Ancilla College.

Haley Keenum went 4-for-4. Wagner and Hollye Keenum had a double and single. Cassie Sims had a double. Brittany Richardson and Katie Cornelius had a single. Stephanie Wilbanks had two singles.
