The funeral for Kenneth “Ken” Dwayne Whitt, 68, of Athens will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at McConnell Funeral Home. A graveside service and burial will follow at Gatlin Cemetery. Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home. Mr. Whitt died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at Huntsville Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Whitt of Athens; a son, Johnny Whitt and wife Julie of Reidsville, N.C.; two stepsons, Danny Whitfield and wife Sandra, and Dale Whitfield, all of Athens; three granddaughters, Sasha Whitt, Leslie Whitfield and Anna Whitfield; a great-grandson, Jackson Yeaman; three sisters, Betty Wells of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Lorene Hodges of Elkmont, and Lela Hargrove of Veto, Tenn.; one brother, Alvin Brown of Hutsville; numerous nieces and nephews.
Kenneth Dwayne Whitt was born May 20, 1940 in Giles County, Tennessee to James Vernon Whitt and Exie Wallace Whitt. He was a lifelong bluegrass musician who performed throughout the Southeast at churches, festivals and conventions.
