Tallapoosa Co. worker indicted in theft, ethics case

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (AP) — A Tallapoosa County maintenance department employee has been indicted.

Attorney General Troy King said in a statement Monday that a grand jury on Aug. 12 returned felony theft charges against 50-year-old Michael A. Lucas.

He’s accused of stealing more than $2,500 in currency or checks that were the property of the Tallapoosa County Commission. Lucas was also charged with violating the state ethics law.

No other information was released about the alleged crimes.

Lucas remains free on $30,000 bond.

No trial date was announced.
