FORT MITCHELL, Ala. (AP) — Authorities in Russell County say a body of a woman was found in a wooded area in Fort Mitchell.

The body was found about 10:30 a.m. Monday off County Road 39, also called Nuckols Road.

A spokesman with the Phenix City Police Department said the body appeared to be a black female. Authorities are treating the case as a homicide.

Police said the remains were sent to a Department of Forensic Sciences lab in Montgomery to determine cause of death and the identity.
