Board approves supplemental pay for coaches

The Limestone County school board agreed on supplemental pay for various coaches and sponsors and took other personnel action during its board meeting last week. Board members approved the following supplemental pay rates for the following positions:
• $9,000 plus 13-days pay for varsity football coach, varsity boys basketball coach, varsity girls basketball coach
• $7,500 plus 13-days pay for band director
• $4,500 plus seven-days pay for varsity baseball coach, varsity softball coach
• $3,500 for the following: football assistants 1A-6A, 2A-6A, 3,4,5 6A only, 4,5,6A only, 5,6A only and 6A only; boys basketball assistants; girls basketball assistants
• $3,000 plus seven-days pay for varsity volleyball coach
• $2,500 plus seven days pay for varsity football cheerleader sponsor
• $2,500 varsity basketball cheerleader sponsor; athletic director; certified designated assistant principal
• $2,000 plus seven-days pay for boys soccer coach, girls soccer coach
• $2,000 for certified assistant band director; Career Tech robotics advisor
• $1,500 for baseball, softball and volleyball assistants; wrestling coach; varsity boys track coach, varsity girls track coach; boy and girls cross country track coach
• $1,250 for non-certified designated assistant principal
• $1,200 for boys golf sponsor, girls golf sponsor
• $1,000 for junior varsity football cheerleader sponsor (separate squad effective 2008-09), middle school football cheerleader sponsor, non-certified assistant band director, junior varsity basketball cheerleader sponsor, middle school cheerleader sponsor, Senior Beta Club sponsor/National Honor Society, Junior Beta Club sponsor/National Honor Society; Senior Scholars Bowl sponsor, yearbook sponsor, theater sponsor, Career Tech student advisor, local school FCCLA advisor, local school FFA advisor, Career Tech Skills USA advisor, Career Tech FBLA advisor.
• $750 for countywide Special Olympics coordinator and Junior Scholars Bowl sponsor
• $500 for elementary Scholars Bowl sponsor for fourth and fifth grades, elementary Scholars Bowl for sixth grade; local school competitive technology teams advisor
Board members also took the following personnel action:
• Created the following positions: half-time assistant principal at Ardmore High School, two special-education inclusion assistants at Creekside Elementary School, extended–day nurse at Creekside, part-time CNP worker and assistant at East Limestone High School, special-education instruction assistant at Owens Elementary School, half-time assistant principal at West Limestone High School, and half-time special-education gifted coordinator and half-time BBSST system wide coordinator.
• Approved a contract with Dena Bowman for special-education homebound instruction.
• Hired the following: Karen Moore as itinerant guidance counselor at Clements High School and Reid Elementary School, Daryl Harbin as custodian at Creekside, Levi Terry as physical education and health teacher at Elkmont High School, Katherine Brazier as elementary teacher at Piney Chapel Elementary School, William Gilbert as custodian at Reid, Sharon Reynolds as licensed practical nurse and special-education assistant at Tanner High School, Robert Francis as special-education teacher at West Limestone, and James Bennett as mechanic at the bus garage.
• Transferred the following: Ericka Zirvel from itinerant speech pathologist at Clements and East Limestone to full-time speech pathologist at Clements, Renita Kelley from elementary teacher at Tanner to ELL teacher at Clements, Cam Wales from prekindergarten collaborative teacher at Piney Chapel to special-education collaborative teacher at East Limestone, Karlee Davis from special education inclusion assistant at Creekside to special-education inclusion assistant at East Limestone, Donna Jackson from special-education inclusion assistant at Creekside to special-education inclusion assistant at East Limestone, Jennifer Persall from special-education inclusion assistant at Creekside to special-education inclusion assistant at East Limestone, Christie Webster from special-education inclusion assistant at Creekside to special-education inclusion assistant at East Limestone, Rene Noojin from family and consumer science teacher at Elkmont High School to language arts teacher at Elkmont. Troy Rogers from social science teacher at West Limestone to guidance counselor at Elkmont, Rhonda Mitchell from interim CNP manager at Johnson to CNP manager at Johnson, Deana Young from dropout-prevention advisor at Tanner to guidance counselor at Tanner, Shanon Kyser from special-education teacher at Johnson to special education referral coordinator at the Central Office.
• Granted leave instead of sick leave to Melissa Turner, custodian at East Limestone, retroactive to June 3 for three days; and to Kathryn Adams, special-education teacher at Elkmont, retroactive to Jan. 11 for three days.
• Granted leaves of absence to the following: Terry Clark, elementary teacher at Clements through Oct. 31; Lynda Cooper, special-education inclusion assistant at Clements from Aug. 25 through the rest of the first semester; Jennifer King, elementary teacher at Piney Chapel from Aug. 1 through Sept 12, Amanda Hulsey, language arts teacher at Tanner from Oct. 10 through the rest of the first semester; and Lorel Pope, CNP worker and assistant at Tanner from July 29 through Sept. 12.
• Granted a request for retirement from Dan Bass, science teacher at Elkmont.
• Accepted the following resignations: Joan Comer, reading coach at Clements; Carla Gregg, language arts teacher at Clements; Jennifer Cross, bookkeeper and secretary at Piney Chapel; Brandi Hall, elementary teacher at Piney Chapel; Matthew Stockman, elementary teacher at Piney Chapel, LeeAnn Gonzales, LPN and special-education assistant at Tanner; Julie Morgan, elementary teacher at West Limestone; and James Jones, mathematics teacher at Clements.
