FLORENCE, Ala. — Authorities have identified the nude body found beneath the Cypress Creek Bridge.

Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Travis Clemmons says the body found Monday morning is that of 44-year-old Glenn Obey Erlenmeyer, a former resident of Las Vegas.

Clemmons also says authorities are questioning the man Erlenmeyer was living with, 72-year-old Florence resident james Shelley, in connection with the death. He says Shelley has not been formally charged but that a charge could come Tuesday. Clemmons expects Shelley to be charged with abuse of a corpse.

Clemmons says Shelley told authorities that Erlenmeyer had been sick and was sleeping on the couch. Clemmons says Shelley told authorities he got up Monday and found Erlenmeyer dead on the couch and that he put the body in the trunk of his car and took him to the area beneath the bridge on Alabama 20.

Shelley told investigators that he placed the body at the creek around 8 a.m, investigators said. A man fishing from the bank of Cypress Creek spotted the body about three hours later and contacted authorities.
