Buel Woodall Baine
The funeral for Buel Woodall Baine, 91, of Decatur will be 10 a.m. today at Shelton Funeral Home in Decatur with the Rev. Barrett Long and the Rev. Eric Bell officiating.
The body will be at Pisgah Baptist Church in Pisgah from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. today with a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Pisgah Cemetery.
Mrs. Baine died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born July 9, 1915, in Jackson County to Dallas and Vesta Woodall. Mrs. Baine was a member of Central Baptist Church and the New Comer Alumni. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Baine.
Survivors include one son, Billy Nelson Baine and wife Gloria of Athens; a daughter, Sarah Garner of Decatur; six grandchildren, LeAnn Long and husband Barrett, Baine Garner and wife LeaAnn, Debbie Tuck and husband Charles, David Baine and wife Cindy, Sandra Whitfield and husband Danny, and Barbara Parnell and husband Greg; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons and friends will be pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church relocation fund, Tanner Methodist Church or Pisgah Baptist Church.
Avis Anita Garner
The graveside service for Avis Anita Garner, 87, of Athens was Monday at Valley View Cemetery with Ollie Cooper officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Garner died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at her daughter’s home.
She was member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include three daughters, Glenda Blocker of Atlanta, Linda Stone and husband Eugene of Owens Cross Roads and Charlene Carver and husband Charles of Huntsville; three sisters, Estaline Baker, Fausteen Birdwell and Lucille Hudson, all of Athens; grandchildren, Kathy Blocker and husband Wayne, and Ginger Bing and husband Joe, all of Atlanta, Sylenda Schrimsher and husband Arnold of New Hope, Gene Stone and Randy Hendon, both of Guntersville, and Dale Stone and wife Lynette of Owens Cross Roads, Chuck Carver and wife Victoria of Madison and Kim Claunch of Huntsville; and four great-grandchildren, T.J. Schrimsher of New Hope, Katelyn Bing of Atlanta, Jeremy Stone of Owens Cross Roads and Bryce Carver and wife Cameron of Madison; and many loving friends and relatives in Gurley.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.
Gerald Dean Jernigan
The funeral for Gerald Dean Jernigan, 67, of Athens will be 2 p.m. today at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with J.R. Carter and Marshall Norman officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery.
Mr. Jernigan died Friday, March 16, in Limestone County.
He was employed by Limestone Farmers Cooperative for the last 25 years. Mr. Jernigan was a member of Grace Full Gospel Church and a member of Clements Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by a son, Morris Wade Jernigan and his parents, James Arthur Burchell Jr. and Myrtle Alvean Clinard Jernigan.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Jernigan of Athens; two sons, Kenneth Jernigan and Darrell Duane Jernigan, both of Tucson, Ariz.; four daughters, Patty Lynn Rodriguez of Athens, Anna Marie Weaver and Sarah Elizabeth Haggermaker, both of Elkmont, and Pamela Alvean Jernigan of Athens; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five brothers, Johnnie Clinard of Athens, Robert A. Clinard of Lester, Larry Burchell of Stockbridge, Ga., Billy Burchell of Athens and Royce Burchell of Hoover; six sisters, Christine Long of Athens, Ruby Burchell Carter of Tanner, Brenda Burchell Clinard of Athens, Wanda Burchell Carter of Collins, Miss., Kay Green Harbin of Tanner, and Barbara Burchell Hysaw of Northport; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Clinard, Travis McGraw, Stacey Clinard, Johnnie Ussery, Michael Clinard, Wayne McGraw and David McGraw.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jessie Rager, Eddie Turner, Donnie Hovis and Joe Rutherford.
Lamon ‘Dukie’ McElyea
The funeral for Lamon “Dukie” McElyea, 57, of Elkmont will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Spry Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Wallace Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Mr. McElyea died Monday, March 19, 2007, at his home.
He was born May 14, 1949, in Limestone County. He was a member of the Clements Baptist Church and a former employee of Pilgrim’s Pride in Athens.
He is survived by two daughters, Joan Lewter of Elkmont and Tammy Hyatt of Athens; two sons, Michael Meagher of Rogersville and Elvis McElyea of Athens; five brothers, John McElyea of Athens, James McElyea of Athens, Gerald Dean McElyea of Elizabethtown, Ky., Ray McElyea of Athens and Robert White of Lafayette, Ind.; two sisters, Dottie Green of Athens and Joyce Cowan of Taft, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Frances Estelle Powell
The graveside service for Frances Estelle Powell, 86, of Decatur will be at 11 a.m. today at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Eva with Mike Thomas officiating.
Mrs. Powell died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at Decatur General Hospital.
