Matthew Paul Dempsey

Funeral arrangements for Matthew Paul Dempsey, 25, of Athens, who died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at home, will be announced by McConnell Funeral Home.



Wanda “Gundie” Hamby

The funeral for Wanda Monette “Gundie” Hamby, 6, of Elkmont will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Donald Terry officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hamby died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at home.



Daniel Hardaway

Mr. Daniel D. Hardaway, 64, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church in Wadesboro, N.C., with Dr. Tom Parrish and the Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating.

Interment will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory in Albemarle, N.C.

The family will greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro.

Mr. Hardaway was born in Truman, Ark., on Dec. 18, 1942, a son of the late Wanda Richardson and Paul Hardaway.

He was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps with 20 years of service and three tours of duty in Vietnam.

He was a member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce H. Hardaway of the home; his children, Daniel Hardaway Jr. of San Diego, Calif., and Jodi Zulyvic of Harrisburg, Ore.; stepchildren, Christie Lynette Bingham of Bessemer City, N.C., and Jodie Driggers Powell of Wadesboro; his grandchildren, Jonathan Powell, Jodi Lynn Driggers, Debra Lee Jackson, Kaila Rose Driggers and Robert Joseph Powell.

Also surviving is a sister, Hazel Hogan of Wadesboro; a brother, Jerry Hardaway and his wife Gale of Athens; and a very special friend, Johnny Johnson of Wadesboro.

Leavitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Rickey Lynn Wray

The funeral for Rickey Lynn Wray, 44, of Elkmont will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spry Funeral Home with Jeff Drake officiating. Burial will be in Pettusville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Wray died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at his residence.

Born July 1, 1962, in Limestone County, Mr. Wray was a member of the Union Hill Baptist Church in Ardmore, Tenn. He was retired from the City of Huntsville.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Delores “Dee” Hardy of Elkmont; his mother, Virginia Beatrice Wray of Elkmont; one daughter, Niki Cantrell of Huntsville; three brothers, Randy Wray of Ardmore, Tommy Wray of Elkmont, David “Pete” Wray of Prospect, Tenn.; sisters, Barbara Lewis of Athens, Jane Koger of Ardmore, Alice McNatt of Athens, Judy VanHoozer of Ardmore, Linda Crow of Muscle Shoals, Alberta Stone of Hackleburg, Elizabeth Ann “Sister” Strange of Ardmore; one granddaughter, Emma Faith Cantrell of Huntsville; and several nieces and nephews.
