Athens police will be completing their move from Athens City Hall to the new headquarters building Thursday. During that time, the telephone system will be down for about an hour.

Capt. Marty Bruce said dispatch would be moving at 8:30 a.m., when BellSouth begins the process of porting the telephone numbers to the new building.

“For a short time, hopefully not more than one hour, our main telephone number and the telephone number to report fires will be down,” Bruce said. “In the event of an emergency, people should call 911.  For all non-emergency calls, call 233-8707.”

The new headquarters building is located on East Hobbs Street.
