Athens police were questioning two men Tuesday in connection with a robbery attempt late Monday night.
Capt. Marty Bruce said the attempted robbery occurred at 10:25 p.m. in the parking lot of LaPrimavera at 1202 North Jefferson St. He said police believe two black males were involved.
“A Hispanic male says he was coming out of the store when a black male with a handgun jumped out from behind a car and tried to rob him,” Bruce said. “He chased him around his van twice before stopping and pointing a gun at a female who was in the driver’s seat.”
Bruce said the Hispanic male then started punching in numbers on his cellular telephone to police. Apparently scared, the robber fled. He was last seen leaving the area with another man in a gray, four-door vehicle.
“A little later, the victim saw two people, who he believes were involved, pull into the McDonald’s on U.S. 31,” Bruce said. “Officers Johnny Campbell and Doug Durn stopped them on East Forrest Street at Lindsay Lane. We are questioning those two men at this time,” Bruce said.
No one was injured in the robbery attempt.
