Prep roundup: Tanner rolls past East

TANNER – Going into Tuesday night’s game with East Limestone, Tanner basketball coach Chris Whitt challenged his team to have at least one player record 15 rebounds.
Latrauis Mosley may not have met the quota, but he got pretty close. Mosley led the Rattlers with 14 rebounds and 20 points as Tanner beat East Limestone 62-49.
Tanner jumped out to an early lead in the first period and went into halftime with a slim 26-24 lead. The Rattlers built a five-point lead by the end of the third quarter, and then pulled away in the fourth period – outscoring the Indians 20-12.
Even though Tanner got the win, Whitt wasn’t completely satisfied.
“We’re not where we need to be yet,” he said. “We haven’t put it all together yet. Fortunately, they’re just now coming off football too. We’re lucky to have gotten a win.”
Marvin Baker led East Limestone with 18 points. Larry Williams scored seven points for the Indians.
East Limestone only shot 30 percent from the field.
Richard Nasseri scored 16 points for Tanner, while Rod Byrd added 10 points.
East Limestone travels to Madison County Friday at 7:30 p.m. for the Indians first Class 4A, Area 15 matchup. Tanner hosts Ardmore Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Elkmont 62, Clements 59
Elkmont opened play in Class 3A, Area 15 with a win over Clements Tuesday night.
Clements went into halftime with a 35-26 lead, but the Red Devils went on a 20-7 run in third period to regain the lead.
David Solomon led Elkmont with 15 points and nine steals, while twin brother Brandon Solomon added 12 points and hauled in eight rebounds. Tom Logan scored 11 points and Jonathan Carter scored 10 points for the Red Devils.
Josh Eaton scored 11 points for Elkmont, while Cody Arnold added 10 points.
Madison County 51, Ardmore 48
Madison County used an 8-0 run late in the first half to pull away for a Class 4A, Area 15 win at Ardmore Tuesday night.
With the scored tied 21-21 and less than one minute remaining in the second period, Madison County got two consecutive three-pointers and a jump shot to extend the lead to 29-21 at halftime. Ardmore was never able to recover.
Matthew Clem led Ardmore with 16 points, while Jake Stagner added 11 points.
Blake Thompson led Madison County with 16 points and Ryan Cross followed with 12 points.
Ardmore travels to Tanner Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Varsity girls
East Limestone 60, Tanner 52
East Limestone jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the opening period and never looked back as the Indians knocked off Limestone County rival Tanner Tuesday night.
Emily Brackeen led East Limestone with 18 points, while Danielle Jefferson scored 14 points. Shenika Harris and Ebony McCrary scored 10 points each for the Indians.
Cecily Woods led Tanner with 18 points, while Hollye Keenum scored 15 points for Tanner.
East Limestone travels to Madison County Friday at 5:30 p.m., while Tanner hosts Ardmore at 5:30 p.m.
Elkmont 55, Clements 28
Baillee Robinson led Elkmont with 24 points as the Red Devils knocked off Clements Tuesday night in Class 3A, Area 15 action.
Jamie Lack added 15 points for the Red Devils and Stephanie Bentley pulled down five rebounds.
Elkmont travels to West Morgan Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Ardmore 51, Madison County 21
Ardmore jumped out to a 29-5 lead at halftime and never let up as the Tigers picked up a Class 4A, Area 15 win over Madison County Tuesday night.
Courtney Pettus and Jennifer Mills led Ardmore with nine points each. Brittany Miles added eight points and eight rebounds for the Tigers.
Kara Case led Madison County with seven points.
Ardmore travels to Tanner Friday at 5:30 p.m.
