Evelyn Brinkley Ricks
The graveside services for Evelyn Geneva Brinkley Ricks, 84 of Athens, will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 12 at Roselawn Cemetery, with Dr. Curtis Coleman, officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:30pm, McConnell Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ricks died Friday, November 10, 2006, at Athens Convalescent Center, Athens.
Mrs. Ricks was born July 4, 1922 in Prentiss County, Miss., to William Joseph Brinkley, Sr. and Harriett Isabel Bell Bullock Brinkley of Booneville, Prentiss County, Miss.
She was predeceased by her late husband, Gordon Schoolar Ricks, whom she married June 1, 1947 in Booneville, Miss., at the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Edwin Gordon Ricks and his wife, Beverly of Madison; one daughter Lynda Ricks Smith and her husband Carl of Athens. She is survived by her grandchildren; Nina Kathryn Ricks of Nashville, Tenn., Corey Alexander Smith and Clayton Brinkley Smith of Athens, Kathryn Michelle Privett of Auburn, Christopher Stewart Smith of Clarksville, Tenn., and Kari Delayne Smith of Santa Monica, Calif. She is survived by one sister, Virginia Margurette Brinkley Bridger of Memphis, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ricks attended and graduated from Jumpertown High School, in Mississippi, 1939. She later attended Northwest Mississippi Junior College and Mississippi State University, in Starkville, Miss. She worked at Peoples Bank and Trust in Booneville when she and Gordon were married. She worked as an Administrative Secretary at Northeast Mississippi Junior College, in Booneville, Miss., from 1948 to 1954. She was secretary of Athens Middle School in the Athens City School System for seventeen years until her retirement in 1983.
Mrs. Ricks was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church; Bennett-Waites Sunday school class and United Methodist Women in Athens. She was also an active member of Athens Garden Club, Athens Ladies Golf Association, and was an avid bridge player.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The First United Methodist Church of Athens, the Alzheimer’s Association, or your favorite charity.
Spencer Wayne Moss
The funeral for Spencer Wayne Moss, 37, of Harvest, will be at 5 p.m. today at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Dusty McLemore and Sonny Schofield officiating.
Visitation will be from 1-5 today at the funeral home.
Mr. Moss died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at Baptist Hospital in Southaven, Miss.
He was born March 28, 1969 to Curtis Wayne Moss and Linda Gail Denmark Moss in Cobb County, Ga. He attended Lindsay Lane Baptist Church.
He is survived by children, Michael Moss, Hannah Moss, Morgan Moss, all of Olive Branch, Miss.; parents; sisters, Stacey Griffin of Athens, Tonya Sims of Birmingham and several nieces and nephews.
