Pinque’s two TDs lead East by Tarrant

BIRMINGHAM – East Limestone running back Jonathan Pinque rushed for 212 yards with two touchdowns as the Indians upset Tarrant 26-18, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Class 4A playoffs.

East Limestone took an early lead in the first quarter when Pinque scored on a 6-yard run. Gil Johnson made the extra point.

The Indians got on the board again in the second quarter when quarterback Chad Dewitt ran 19 yards for a touchdown. Johnson made the extra point to extend the lead to 14-0.

Tarrant cut the lead to eight before halftime when quarterback Andre Berry hit Jake Rogers on a 20-yard touchdown pass.

The Wildcats chopped the Indians’ lead to two in the third quarter when Berry found Christian Arrington open for a 65-yard touchdown pass.

Pinque extended East Limestone’s lead to 20-12 in the fourth quarter when he ran 31 yards for a touchdown.

Tarrant made things interesting late in the fourth quarter when Berry scored on a 43-yard run. But Dewitt gave the Indians some insurance when he scored on a 2-yard run with less than two-minutes remaining.

East Limestone hosts Guntersville Friday in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A playoffs.
