Local Roundup: Elkmont, Tedford open season with win at Richland

RICHLAND, Tenn. – Elkmont opened the season on a positive note by posting a 71-65 win over Richland Tuesday night.
The win was Trace Tedford’s first as the Red Devils basketball coach.
Elkmont jumped out to a 13-11 lead in the first period, but Richland battled back to go ahead 31-29 before the half.
With Elkmont leading by seven early in the fourth period, Richland went on a run to go ahead by one. But on the ensuing possession, Jonathan Carter knocked down a three-pointer in the corner to put the Red Devils on top for good.
Tom Logan led Elkmont with 19 points. Brandon Solomon scored 16 points for the Red Devils, while Carter scored 14 and Chance Newby had 11.
Tim Woolridge led Elkmont in rebounds.
Elkmont will take the court again Friday when the Red Devils host Ardmore.

Richland 45, Elkmont 35
Elkmont’s girls basketball team got off to a slow start Tuesday night by dropping the season opener to Richland 83-51.
Richland jumped out on top 26-18 in the first period and was leading 45-35 at halftime.
Going into the final period with a 66-45 lead, Richland went on a 17-6 run to close out the game.
Bailee Robinson led Elkmont with 21 points. Oliva Pressnell added 10 points, while Stephanie Bentley scored seven for the Red Devils.
