Melvin Gene Etheredge

The funeral for Melvin Gene Etheredge, 70, of Athens, will be at 11 a.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home with Danny McMullins and Jerry Strickland officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Etheredge died Tuesday, Sept 26, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital.

He was born Aug. 7, 1936, in Lawrence County to Benjamin Taft Etheredge and Eva Lee Evans Etheredge. He was a member of First Union Baptist Church. He loved his grandchildren and loved to hunt and fish. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jo McGregor.

He is survived by his wife, Syble Borden Etheredge of Athens; one son, Tony Etheredge of Athens; three daughters, Debbie Rose of Athens, Angie Gaddis of Scottsboro, and Missy Smith of Lester; four sisters, Dot Armstrong of Moulton, Lynn Varnado, Jackie Crow, and Cathy Waugh, all of Decatur; four brothers, Bud Etheredge, Sonny Etheredge, Billy Ray Etheredge, and Ricky Etheredge, all of Decatur; seven grandchildren, Dana Rose, Austin Gaddis, Emilee Smith, Macy Rose, Clay Gaddis, Cole Smith and Easton Smith.

Pallbearers will be Steven Borden, Mike Tanksley, Austin Gaddis, Seale Coleman, Joe Campbell and David Mitchell.



Myra Yancey Kay

Myra Yancey Kay, 88, of Huntsville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Yancey Lindsay of Athens and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was born June 9, 1918.
