Leta Phillips Curry

The funeral for Leta Phillips Curry of Athens will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Spry Funeral Home with Greg Patrick and Doug McCurry officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Curry died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at Athens Convalescent Center.

She was born in Lauderdale County. She had been a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church since 1948. She was a homemaker and former owner/operator of Curry’s Fruit Stand on Market Street.

She is survived by one son, Wendell Curry. and wife Shirlene of Athens; one grandson, Terry Curry, and wife Terri of Athens; two great-grandchildren, Candi Christan, and husband Robby of Athens, and Tristan Curry of Athens; one brother, Connie C. Phillips of Athens, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Curry, and two grandchildren, Christy Lynn Curry and Michael Ron Curry.

Pallbearers will be Robby Christan, Jimmy Don Haney, Jeff Brown, Rob Rayburn, Tim Christopher and Jimmy Leach.



Melvin Gene Etheredge

The funeral for Melvin Gene Etheredge, 70, of Athens, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McConnell Funeral Home with Danny McMullins and Jerry Strickland officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Etheredge died Tuesday, Sept 26, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital.

He was born Aug. 7, 1936, in Lawrence County to Benjamin Taft Etheredge and Eva Lynn Evans Etheredge. He was a member of First Union Baptist Church. He loved his grandchildren and loved to hunt and fish.

He is survived by his wife, Syble Borden Etheredge of Athens; one son, Tony Etheredge of Athens; three daughters, Debbie Rose of Athens, Angie Gaddis of Scottsboro, and Missy Smith of Lester; four sisters, Dot Armstrong of Moulton, Lynn Varnado, Jackie Crow, and Cathy Waugh, all of Decatur; four brothers, Bud Etheredge, Sonny Etheredge, Billy Ray Etheredge, and Ricky Etheredge, all of Decatur; seven grandchildren, Dana Rose, Austin Gaddis, Emilee Smith, Macy Rose, Clay Gaddis, Cole Smith and Easton Smith.

Pallbearers will be Steven Borden, Mike Tanksley, Austin Gaddis, Seale Coleman and Joe Campbell.



Evelyn Vickers

The funeral for Evelyn Vickers, 86, of Elkmont, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home with Willie Earl officiating. Burial will be in Sylone Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vickers died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.
