Tanner whips Phil Campbell

TANNER — Tim Mason and Jarquise Peoples combined for six touchdowns and 261 yards rushing Friday night to lead the undefeated Tanner Rattlers past Phil Campbell 40-23.

In addition, quarterback Demarcus King had a hot hand passing going 9-of-16 in the air for 126 yards and a two-point conversion attempt.

With the win, the Rattlers go to 4-0 and 3-0 in Class 2A, Region 8. Up next is a Thursday night battle against arch-rival East Limestone.

Peoples opened the scoring on a 3-yard run and Mason added his first touchdown of the night a little later on a 2-yard run.

It was 12-0 Tanner after one quarter.

Mason made it 18-0 on a 11 yard TD early in the second period, but Phil Campbell struck back to cut it to 18-7 on a 24-yard pass from Paxton Rice to Steven Lacey.

Mason scored his third touchdown of the night on a 66-yard touchdown run late in the quarter and King ran the two-point conversion to make it 26-7 at the half.

Peoples ran a 41 yard TD in the third quarter and George Adams added the PAT to make it 33-7 after three quarters.

Phil Campbell cut it to 10 in the fourth scoring two touchdowns and two 2-point conversions.

But Tanner put the game away on a 3-yard run by Peoples and the point after by Adams late in the game.
