SALEM – Freshman Brandon Baker scored three touchdowns and rushed for 194 yards to lead the Elkmont Red Devils to a 39-16 win over the West Limestone Friday night on the road.

“It was great out there,” Baker said. “We had great blocking which really made my job easier. It was just great.”

Elkmont jumped to a 6-0 lead with just less than 30 seconds gone in the opening quarter when Tim Woolridge caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Jonathan Carter.

Baker scored on an 11-yard run with 8:05 in the second period. The Wildcats countered with a 5-yard scoring run from Darrel Taylor five minutes later. Tommy Reyer and Tyler McClung connected on the extra points.

Baker scored all the third quarter points. First on a 27-yard run and then on a 1-yard carry.

“We executed well offensively,” Elkmont coach Chad McGehee said, “We are still making too many mistakes. With the score class at half time, I felt we showed a lot of character in he second half by keeping the game not so close.”

“West Limestone did a good job of matching us,” Coach McGehee added. “We are facing an uphill battle with the games coming up, we can not continue to make the same mistakes.”

Wesley Hughes scored the final six-pointer for the Wildcats. Reyer ran for the extra points.

David Solomon, Chance Newby and Brandon Solomon completed the Red Devil scoring. David Solomon scored on a 40-yard carry, Newby on a 9-yard run while Brandon Solomon kicked he extra point after each touchdown.

“We just could not stop them, “ Wildcat assistant coach Clint Legg said. “Elkmont’s coaches had a good game plan and did a good job coaching. They mixed it up pretty good.”

West Limestone will face Ardmore as they celebrate homecoming next week. The Red Devils will host Madison Academy.
