Martha L. Carter

The funeral for Martha L. Carter, 85, of Athens, was Monday at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home with Glen Keenon officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Ms. Carter died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at Limestone Health Facility.



David Gayle Eddy

The funeral for David Gayle Eddy, 62, of Elkmont, was Monday at Spry Funeral Home with Terry Jackson officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Eddy died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at his home.

He was born Nov. 19, 1943, in Limestone County. He was a United States Army veteran and an auto body technician.

He is survived by his wife Kandise Eddy of Elkmont; father, Edward Eddy of Athens; mother, Inez Eddy of Lakeland, Fla.; five brothers, Kenneth Eddy of Florida, Richard Eddy of Huntsville, John Eddy of Huntsville, Gary Eddy of Athens, Jerry Eddy of Athens; five sisters, Peggy Battles of Florida, Carol Smith of Florida, Patricia Cates of Florida, Judy Elkins of Athens, Freda Baker of Huntsville; and one stepson, David Pratt of Nashville, Tenn.



Joyce Elaine Fetterer

Joyce Elaine Fetterer, 70, passed away in her sleep Sept. 17, 2006, in Athens. Joyce was born in Gary, Ind., to Francis and Oleda Duggins. Joyce received a business degree from Valparaiso University. In the year 2000, she retired from her tax accounting business in Hobart, Ind., after serving over 40 years Joyce moved from Hobart, Ind., to Athens in 1998. Joyce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church while living in Hobart and a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Madison while living in Athens. She was a loving mother who frequently traveled to visit family and was an American Contract Bridge League Life Master.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 51 years, Edgar Fetterer and five children; Marie Noel of Westland, Mich., Elaine McDougal and husband Rickey of Hobart, Ind., Al Fetterer and wife Nit of Madison, Amy McLamb and husband Darryl of Westminister, Maryland, Susan Fetterer of Nashville, Tenn. Joyce had four siblings; Estill Duggins and wife Sue of Pittsburg, Pa., Russell Duggins of Oneida, N.Y., Carol Barringer of Delta, Ohio, and Kenneth Duggins and wife Judy of Kankakee, Ill. She also left behind eight grandchildren; Michele, Jason, Lisa and Amanda Noel, Eric freeman, Melissa Fetterer, Andrew and Erin McLamb and numerous nieces and nephews.

We will never forget your smiles, determination and love. We love you.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to The Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation and Business Office, P.O. Box 5007, Minot, N.D., 58702-5007.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Reese Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, in Hobart, Ind.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 Luther Drive, Hobart, Ind., Pastor Timothy Engel officiating. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, 1505 U.S. 30, Valparaiso, Ind.

Spry Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.



James Ernest Murrah

James Ernest Murrah, 96, born in Limestone County, Feb. 26, 1910, left his earthly home on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006. He was the son of the late John Ernest Murrah and Mattie Yeargen Johnson Murrah.

His variety of work experiences and interests was indicative of Mr. Murrah’s love for his family and love for life. Before retiring as a police officer for the City of Athens, he worked as a TVA foreman, farmer, independent trucker, construction worker and as a trader of trucks, tractors and livestock. Known for his quick wit, sense of humor and love for people, Mr. Murrah seemed to never meet a stranger. As a result of these and other qualities, he made many friends through the years and was well respected by all. His benevolence and generosity was usually known by the recipients. He was a regular volunteer at annual elections and it was very important to him to visit the sick and attend the funerals of relatives, friends and his many acquaintances.

Mr. Murrah was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Ball Murrah and son, James Douglas Murrah; his brother, William Thomas Murrah and sister, Mary M. Leonard; and survived by his sister, Yeargen Murrah Wellden; four sons and one daughter; Glen Dale Murrah of Ardmore, Tenn., Wendell Harvey Murrah of Athens; Roger Alan Murrah of Franklin, Tenn., Michael Lane Murrah of Nashville, Tenn., and Ernestine (Tina) Murrah Swindell of Athens; five grandchildren, Connie Fain of Athens, Sandra Arnold of Wetumpka, Marla DeLong of Knoxville, Tenn., Jason Loren Murrah of Waco, Texas, Kacey Swindell of Birmingham; and seven great-grandchildren, James Fain, Sarah Fain, David Fain, all of Athens, Jacob Arnold of Wetumpka, Jordan Kathryn DeLong , Griffin DeLong and Emmersyn Grace DeLong of Knoxville, Tenn.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Greg Brown officiating. Pallbearers will include Norman Wellden, Danny Ball, Doug Stewart, James Johnson, George Braly Jr. and Roger Phillips.

Honorary pallbearers are Clyde Ennis, Price Black, Barry Hooie, Lifford French, Hugh Strain and Clay Hooie. Interment will follow at Athens City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.
