A north Athens man is recovering from a puncture wound from a broken bottle.

Athens Police Capt. Marty Bruce said Abel Botello, 24, of 500 Seventh Ave., became involved in “an altercation” near North Houston Street at Seventh Avenue early Friday.

“He got hit in the back with a glass bottle and the bottle lodged in his back,” said Bruce. “He was taken to Athens-Limestone Hospital, where the glass was removed.”

Bruce said police have a suspect.

“We just have a first name and witnesses say he was driving a gray Nissan,” said Bruce.

Police arrested one witness on the scene of the 6:40 a.m. incident.

John Edward Garza, 29, of 1100 N. Houston St., was charged with giving a false name to a police officer.
