Colts shock Sheffield

SHEFIELD – Clements coach Forrest Williams couldn’t think of many things his football team did wrong after the first quarter in Friday nights 35-25 win over Sheffield.
“We pretty much played perfect football for three quarters tonight,” Williams said. “We realty challenged our guys this week and they came through.”
The Colts faithful were going crazy after upsetting the Bulldogs and Williams was drenched in water after picking up his first win as Clements head coach.
“It was wild tonight,” Williams said. “Everybody was going crazy and pulling for our guys. These players deserve this.’
Clements took an early lead when Jesse Cobb scored on an eight-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter. Josh Cooper made the extra point to give the Colts a 7-0 lead.
Sheffield countered when Nick James scored a six-yard touchdown run. Samuel Gaskins’ extra point was good.
The Colts regained the lead early in the second quarter when quarterback Cody Arnold hit Seth Bachelor on a 20-yard touchdown pass. Cooper’s extra point was good.
“Our offense executed tonight,” Williams said. “We really run the football well tonight. That was big for us.”
The Bulldogs struck back late in the first half when Kiara Ricks scored on a three-yard touchdown run. Gaskins missed the extra point.
Ricks got Sheffield on the board again early in the third quarter when Ricks scored on a one-yard touchdown run. The Bulldogs’ two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the Bulldogs lead at 19-14.
Clements regained the lead late in the third quarter when Jesse Cobb scored on a 42-yard touchdown run. Cooper’s point after was good.
Clements scored again late in the fourth quarter when Arnold found Jeremy Craig open in the back of the endzone. Cooper’s extra point was good.
“Our defense played outstanding tonight,” Williams said. “We had a couple of big interceptions and forced several punts in key situations.
“They kept us in the game and our offense pulled through. This is a really big win everyone in our program. All of our guys have worked really hard and deserve a win like this.”
The win gives Clements (1-2,1-1) its first Class3A Region 8 win on the season. The Colts will attempt to continue their momementum next week by hosting Colbert Heights in another Region 8 game.
