If you’re looking for a fun, cheap date tonight – and you like country and western music – go to the Country Music Opry Show in Lawrenceburg, Tenn.
You’ll see performances by Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Jr., George Jones, Dolly Parton, Hank Williams Sr., Patsy Cline, Lori Morgan, Junior Samples and nine other famous country and western singers.
Of course, the singers aren’t the real thing, but their impersonations are top notch, said Bill Allen, owner of Tennessee Valley Jamboree
“I’ll tell you what, George Jones himself would be crying in his beer if he saw this group,” Allen said.
The performers not only sing like the stars they are portraying, they look like them, Allen said.
“All the glitter, makeup, everything,” he said.
One of the performers is Athens’ own Sue Morgan, who will perform as Lori Morgan.
“It’s lots of fun and I feel like I’m doing something for a worthy cause,” Morgan said. “The show is good. There are some excellent singers there. ”
Morgan, who has been singing since she was age 12, is originally from Florence.
The event starts at 7 p.m at the Crockett Theatre at the Tennessee Valley Jamboree. Admission is only $5, and the proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.
“These people do this for free,” Allen said. “The Country Music Opry Show is done once a year for a good cause.”
Tennessee Valley Jamboree offers country, bluegrass and gospel music every second and fourth Saturday at 7 p.m.
Admission is usually free. It is located at 1709 Deer Hollow Drive, Lawrenceburg.
