ATHENS – Going into the season, Athens coach Allen Creasy hoped to get more production from his running game. After the Golden Eagles 42-14 win over Muscle Shoals Friday, newcomer Ferrell Williams looks to be the missing ingredient Athens needed.
Williams rushed for 170 yards with two touchdowns in the win. He has been selected The News Courier/Athens-Limestone Hospital Sports Medicine Crunch Player of the Week.
“Our offensive line is blocking good and that’s helping me make plays,” Williams said. “Everybody has been doing their job so far and I just want to do what I can to help the team.”
This season is the senior running back’s first year back after leaving the football team to focus primarily on basketball. Williams hasn’t performed like a first year player though. He has accumulated over 100 yards in both of Athens’ wins and scored four touchdowns on the season.
